Our Furlosophy
Transfurmation makes fabulous home furnishings and fashion accessories from reconstructed fur. We take apart gently used fur coats, clean them, and create pillows, scarves, footstools and more. We love to shear the mink, which trims the fur to about 1/4". The result is an amazingly plush texture. All of our products are hand-crafted, limited production items. Transfurmation uses very little new fur in our products. We believe older fur coats are a valuable resource which shouldn't be wasted. Fur is a fantastic natural material, very beautiful and durable. |
| Transfurmation began when Transfurmation's designer and founder, Mary Beth Hayes, came across a child's chair in an artsy
furniture store in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1997. The small bentwood chair had
a mink seat,
made from a stole belonging to the artist's aunt. The combination of dark curved wood and soft mink fur was alluring. Mary Beth began experimenting with fur coats, and then worked with a wonderful Seattle, Washington furrier (originally from Duluth, Minnesota), who taught her about fur types, and fur repair and sewing techniques. |
